MDD Raises Over $2500 For Miles Fire Department
Miles - 2010 Riverboat Days Commodore Don Tegeler presented a check to the Miles Fire Department at the end of the 1st Annual Miles Dirt Days after raising more than $2500 from the pancake breakfast and from the chainsaw carvings auction.Sunday, the final day of Miles Dirt Days, was fund raiser day for the fire department. Starting off with a pancake breakfast manned by Miles Fire Fighters who served pancakes, eggs and sausage to MDD patrons until noon. Later that day an auction was held where all the carvings that were created throughout the weekend by the "Runaway Saws" chainsaw artist were sold to also raise money for the fire department. Before the day was done more than $2500 was collected and donated to the fire department. When asked about the fund raiser and the event in general Mr. Tegeler stated, "To me, this is a perfect example of why I wanted to be part of the Riverboat Days Organization. When we have a successful event like Miles Dirt Days it's a positive thing for all groups involved not just Riverboat Days. With every event we're involved in one of our goals is to funnel some of the proceeds back into the community through non-profit and other groups so they can continue to do the valuable work that they do. We were very fortunate to have good weather for the event and to have the support of everyone who joined us in order to make the whole event as successful as it was. For me it was a very positive experience and as the 2010 RBD Commodore I would like to personally thank everyone who took part in making the whole event a fun and positive experience for everyone who attended." ![]() One special carving was a large carving done of the Miles Fire Department Symbol which was purchased by Cory Reuter of Reuter Brothers Custom Cabinetry. Little did he know that he was actually bidding against the Fire Department itself who wanted to have the carving to display at the fire house. Fortunately for the Miles Fire Fighters Mr. Reuter's intention all along was to donate it to the Fire Department so they could have a keep sake of the event. Mr. Reuter stated, "This is the least I can do to help support the good folks who protect our community." |

First annual Miles Dirt Days is setMILES Miles Mayor Richard Keeney, along with the rest of the City Council, recently agreed to join forces with Clinton Riverboat Days to bring a new event to the city of Miles. On May 21, 22 and 23, the first annual Miles Dirt Days will take place bringing a number of new activities to the Miles Thresher Grounds. Larry Jepson, board member for the Miles Threshers grounds, has been looking for something else to use the grounds for in conjunction with Threshers Days for a while now. When RBD presented all the entertainment possibilities available for that weekend, stating that the thresher grounds were ideal for hosting many of the dirt activities that have become so difficult to stage on the riverfront in Clinton, the City Council was excited to support the new event. After receiving the OK from the Miles City Council to proceed with the necessary planning, RBD board members immediately hit the ground running looking for sponsorship to hold the event. There will be many new events brought to Miles that have never been there before. There will be mini-tractor pulls on May 21 followed by music featuring Scott Manon and the Country Eagles. Illini Pullers will put on a large tractor pull on May 22 after which live music will be provided by The Bones, playing 1980s and ’90s rock ‘n’ roll. An eight-class mud bog will be held May 23 to round out the weekend’s activities. Besides the dirt and music activities, a carnival will be on site all three days. There also will be a mud volleyball tournament. There also will be some antique tractor pulls as well as kids tractor pulls the same day as the big tractor pulls. On Sunday morning, there will be a pancake breakfast in support of the Miles Fire Department who will be receiving a portion of that day’s proceeds. This year’s RBD Marketing Director Corey Council said “This is such a worthwhile event and there has been nothing but positive feedback from the Miles and surrounding area. Since we started asking local businesses for sponsorship and explaining what we wanted to bring to this community, there has been an overwhelming amount of support. We have had businesses calling us and asking how they can be involved in this event. Everyone wants to see this event succeed and continue into the future.” More about MDD |
